Workflow Management and Continuity
In reviewing OpenAI's announcement about acquiring Ona, there's a strong insight about a primary difficulty in current AI-assisted work: continuity.
"As Codex becomes more capable, its most valuable work is unfolding over hours or days, rather than minutes. We believe people should be able to delegate more ambitious work without remaining tied to the machine where it began. The work should continue beyond the initial session, with Codex making it possible to stay connected and check progress, provide direction, make decisions, and review results from anywhere."
While organizing my agent workspace has gotten somewhat easier over time, I'm only now getting around to moving things to a VPS and settling on a few coding agents. That helps with portability, but what I really want is easy access to multiple projects, the ability to run periodic workflow cron jobs, and a central interface to manage it all.
Not having to constantly think about an agent session's context window as work progresses, so I can just commit changes and update plans/docs, would also be a big improvement. Basically everything Ona claims to do.
It's also a reminder that all of this is just a utility service. And like any utility, it only works well when there's solid organization, clear dashboards, and simplified management.
Every bit of friction or uncertainty is a bottleneck waiting to be removed.
